10 Movie Sequels You Didn't Know Were Happening
10. Lethal Weapon 5
Some entries on this list are set to be follow-ups to movies that have seen success very recently, with studios wasting no time in getting sequels in the works. This is not one of those entries.
With legacy sequels being all the rage in the industry today, there is seemingly no time gap that would be deemed too big. As such, the Lethal Weapon franchise - the first film of which released in 1987, and the fourth and most recent back in 1998 - has a fifth entry in development. It may be in development hell, but it is in development.
Not only that, but the script for the film that would see a return to the franchise for the first time in almost three decades has been deemed one of the best ever by Mel Gibson. The actor also acknowledged the problems they have had with getting the project moving forward, but this is a positive step.
Following the passing of Richard Donner in 2020, who directed all four Lethal Weapon movies to date, Mel Gibson will move behind the camera as well as playing Martin Riggs. This is one that has been in production for so long that it may have been forgotten about, but there is still work being done, no matter how slowly.
