When you tag the movie as the defining chapter you have got to deliver and the main trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies certainly sets the scene for something truly epic. It begins low-key, focusing on the aftermath of Smaugs attack on Laketown and the interplay between Bilbo and Thorin. The emotive score, the scenes of desolation, the glimpse of Laketown in flames; the trailer builds like the film itself as armies converge for the titular battle itself. The trailer promised to deliver not just on the Hobbit trilogy but on more than a decade of cinematic Middle-Earth. The glimpses of battle conjure back memories of the epic battle of the Pelanor Fields from The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King and excited book and movie fans alike; the novel barely touches on the battle itself, focusing on the build up and aftermath. Here, however, it's the centre of an entire movie. Given the small section of the book the third film covers, it had the most to prove in stretching one novel to three films. Whether it succeeded or not is for you to decide, but there's no denying there was hope from this magnificent trailer.
