10 Movie Trailers That Totally Lied To Audiences

2. Best Defense

After it became clear that Eddie Murphy was going to hit it big with Beverly Hills Cop, Paramount decided to re-jig their advertising campaign for his lame-brained comedy Best Defense, to imply that he would be in it a lot more than he actually is. The poster and trailer above suggest that the film is going to have Murphy and Dudley Moore sharing roughly half the screen time each, but the end result was very different indeed. The trailer shows pretty much all of Murphy's scenes in condensed form; Murphy's role is a glorified cameo, one that was added late in production to pad the film out and amp up its star appeal, something that even Murphy himself has made light of. This is in many ways the worst kind of deception, advertising a commodity (an actor) and then scarcely even delivering on that promise.
