10 Movie Villains Who Were Clearly Just Misunderstood

9. Sid €“ Toy Story

Now, I understand Sid is supposed to be scary €“ he blows up army men with aplomb and creatively turns his toys into hybrid monstrosities. From the perspective of the toys, he€™s probably the most terrifying thing they€™ve ever seen. But the fact it€™s from the toy€™s perspective is a very important caveat. In the Toy Story universe, nobody has any idea that toys are technically alive, a rule enthusiastically enforced by the toys themselves. So for humans, the toys for all intents and purposes remain inanimate objects and we can do what we like with them because they€™re our property. Remember, this isn€™t like slavery €“ once again, we have no idea they€™re alive, and the toys would rather keep it that way. So when it comes to Sid, one could argue he€™s just like any kid who€™s growing out of toys and becoming interested in other things, like DIY and fireworks. Every kid goes through this stage €“ if they get an air rifle, old toys tend to be the targets. It€™s just a fact of life that working with tools is a healthy interest, and quite a few boys like blowing stuff up. Sid doesn€™t know he€™s blowing up living things at all €“ he€™s simply growing up and becoming interested in other things, like carnage. What€™s wrong with that? If responsibly handled, absolutely nothing.
