When comparing animated movies, the How To Train Your Dragon series has always been darker and more mature than most. Even simple decisions like aging the main character between sequels show that the filmmakers care about moving their story forward, rather than just spewing out a simple, dumb family animation.

True, the villain in the first movie was unimaginative and passable, but in How To Train Your Dragon 2, real effort was put into making sure the antagonist challenged Hiccup and Toothless in difficult ways. The villain was responsible for the murder of Hiccup's dad, for instance, a hugely impactful death and something you rarely see in family movies of this ilk.

Luckily, How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World looks like it's attempting to continue that trend, casting F. Murray Abraham and his deep, intense voice to play Grimmel The Grisly. His powerful stare and sharp eyes make him look like a driven force of nature, and this being the final instalment of the trilogy, the stakes are going to be much higher than ever before - so expect Grimmel to thrust Hiccup and Toothless through the wringer at a devastating pace.
