A Hollywood remake of this film has been announced for a few years now, and is set to feature Tom Hanks, who also produces with his partner Gary Goetzman through Playtone Productions.

Hanks' intentions to remake the film were reported back in 2017, but as of yet little movement has been made in terms of developing the project further.

If this remake ever does see the light of day, expect there to be a big awards push, especially for the performance given by Hanks. Original actor Rolf Lassgard won the Best Actor award at Sweden's Guldbagge Awards, making it an Oscar calibre role for Hollywood's favourite actor.
