Watching someone's psyche disintegrate is absolutely horrifying in real life, but can be quite entertaining in the movies in the sort of fashion that watching zombie apocalyptic scenarios is fun, but you would never want one in reality either (unless you are a crazy survivalist nut). Madness is mesmerising. It is car wreck viewing. You may identify with the cracked person or it may be something scary that is utterly alien to you that makes them insane. Personally, I feel a lot of compassion for many of the mad people in this list. Their deeds may be abhorrent but they remain a figure of sympathy despite their misdemeanours because they are insane and lack the reasoning to know right from wrong.
