6. Jamie Kennedy Made A Documentary About Film Critics - Heckler
Heckler is a 2007 documentary conceived by and starring Jamie Kennedy, concerned with the phenomenon of heckling in stand-up comedy, which Kennedy eventually likens to modern film criticism.
In particular, Heckler came about after Kennedy received critical disdain for his Razzie-winning 2005 blockbuster Son of the Mask, a sequel to the 1994 Jim Carrey-starring classic The Mask, which was a catastrophic dud with critics and general audiences alike.
The documentary is basically Kennedy's feature-length attempt to thumb his nose at online film critics, surmising that most of them are failed artists who aren't any better than a drunken comedy club heckler.
Though far from a persuasive thesis - especially as Son of the Mask is genuinely one of the worst tentpoles of the last 20 years - the film is still an interesting portrait of a frustrated artist criticising his critics.
Though bitterness seeps from every pore of the movie, Heckler did nevertheless receive solid reviews, providing further proof that pain can often be channelled into compelling art.
