10 Movies So Bad Their Directors Disowned Them

9. Twilight Zone: The Movie (Andy House)

Here's an instance where the Alan Smithee credit is used under the most extraordinary of circumstances, and not even to the benefit of the project's most prominent members. Twilight Zone: The Movie was a collaborative collection of short films from Steven Spielberg, John Landis, Joe Dante and George Miller, one which is best known for the infamous on-set helicopter accident which claimed the lives of Jennifer Jason Leigh's dad Vic Morrow, and two young Vietnamese extras. The resulting court case was high-profile enough that practical helicopter stunts have been avoided where possible ever since, and with the advent of CGI, that obviously has become a realistic possibility. However, it wasn't any of the four principal directors who sought the Alan Smithee credit, but rather second assistant director Andy House, because frankly, who wants that association on their CV?
