Roman Polanski's unforgettable 1968 horror masterpiece follows a pregnant young woman, Rosemary (Mia Farrow), who eventually comes to learn that she was preyed upon by a Satanic coven, who drugged her and allowed the Devil to rape her, leading to her birthing the Antichrist.

The film's famously ambiguous ending then sees Rosemary appearing to become a mother to the baby, her exact intentions unknown. Nevertheless, the cult seems to win, and Rosemary is deprived of a baby that's truly hers.

How It Predicted Reality

Several plot elements foreshadowed events in Polanski's own life, namely the murder of his pregnant wife Sharon Tate barely a year after the film's release by members of the Manson family. Rosemary nor "her" baby die in the film, but her pregnancy plans are nevertheless diverted by a deathly cult.

Elsewhere, Polanski and Tate relocated shortly before their pregnancy, just as Rosemary and her husband Guy (John Cassavetes) did, and much like Guy, Tate was a jobbing actor looking to break into the industry.

There were even Rosemary's Baby-inspired theories at the time of Tate's murder that Polanski struck a deal with the Devil himself, sacrificing his wife and unborn son in exchange for a prosperous filmmaking career, just as Guy did to ensure his acting success.
