10 Movies That Pissed Off Audiences Right Away
5. Justice League
Now, it was no secret that Justice League was a massively troubled production prior to its release, but fans nevertheless hoped that the trusty Joss Whedon would find a way to make the tattered remnants of Zack Snyder's movie actually work.
But whatever optimism remained was quickly annihilated in the movie's opening seconds, as the film begins with low-fi mobile phone footage of Superman (Henry Cavill) talking to two young children after saving the day.
Obviously the idea here is to reinforce Superman's heroism in an attempt to course-correct his more controversially grimdark interpretation in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman.
But even if the low-effort phone footage didn't feel like peak millennial-baiting - it's even shot in portrait mode, for the love of God - then there was the distracting monstrosity that was Henry Cavill's CGI lower jaw to deal with.
As we all know by now, Cavill was busy shooting Mission: Impossible - Fallout when he was called back for Justice League's re-shoots, and due to being unable to shave his bushy mustache, it had to be digitally "shaved" in post-production.
The results are hideously uncanny throughout the film, but perhaps never more than in this jarring opening scene.
More to the point, if you've got some janky CGI to unleash upon audiences, bombarding them with it in the opening scene probably isn't a very smart move.
The remainder of the film is a car crash of conflicting tones, mish-mashed storytelling, uneven performances and atrocious effects, unsurprisingly.
