10 Movies That Secretly Revealed Their Endings

4. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - A "S****y Pipe Dream"

Stephan King has published over 60 novels and hundreds of short stories, of which dozens have been made into movies. Among the most cherished adaptions of King's work is the 1994 prison drama starring Tim Robbins as Andy Dufresne - a man falsely convicted of murder. His trials and tribulations throughout his sentence are told through the account of his fellow inmate, Red (Morgan Freeman).

Andy is put through all manner of hardships while in prison - including being assaulted by fellow inmates and being locked in solitary confinement - but eventually he finds his way to salvation by tunnelling out of his cell and crawling through 500 yards of sewage - the sweet smell of freedom.

There are two incidents which not only foreshadow the ending of the movie, but spell out exactly how Andy makes his escape. In a scene where Andy and Red are discussing freedom, Red tells Andy to forget about his "sh**ty pipe dream" - sure enough, Andy crawls to freedom through a sewage pipe.

In another scene, in which Andy has his room shaken down, the Warden comments on Andy's bible. The two discuss their favourite passages before the Warden hands the book back stating: "Salvation lies within." Unbeknownst to the Warden, Andy was hiding a rock hammer in the hollowed out pages of the book, which he later uses to tunnel out of his cell. Andy's salvation was literally hiding within the bible.
