The Ryan Reynolds-starring $58 million comedy actioner became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, generating the sort of cost-to-profit multiplier most blockbuster films could only dream of.
Deadpool proved the audience's appetite for more adult superhero thrills, and the rest, as they say, is history. Considering that earlier estimates pegged it grossing anywhere from $300-500 million, it beating out so many safe, PG-13 comic book films is nothing short of miraculous.
