10 Movies That Should Never Have Bombed At The Box Office (But Totally Did)
10. Missing Link
What do you get when you combine one of the best animation studios to ever grace the movie business and give them a voice cast that includes Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana, and Stephen Fry? Unfortunately, one of the biggest box office bombs of 2019.
Missing Link is a fine example of a brilliant movie that doesn't always make bank at the big show. With a reported budget of over $100 million, this fantastic animated movie only made approximately $26 million during its theatrical run, and that's not just domestic. That is worldwide.
Considering that the movie was nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Feature, and won the Best Animated Feature Golden Globe, it's a marvel that it didn't do better. Especially with such a strong voice cast. Sadly, in an age where CGI and 3D animation are prolific, it would appear that, despite its fervent fanbase, stop-motion animation just isn't the draw that it used to be. It's a real shame, not only because Laika make brilliant movies, but because the craft behind them is special. Missing Link, though not Laika's strongest movie, should not have financially bombed on the scale that it did.
