We'll kick things off with a movie so similar to Die Hard it was even directed by Die Hard 2's own helmer Renny Harlin. Affectionately referred to as "Die Hard on a mountain", Cliffhanger is a legitimately taut and entertaining Sly Stallone vehicle in its own right, but the similarities to the original Die Hard are unmistakable.

An off-duty mountain ranger, Gabe Walker (Stallone), finds himself forced to act when a Eurotrash villain (a horribly-accented John Lithgow) and his gang of mercenaries plot to retrieve $100 million in uncirculated bills they misplaced on the mountain.

Naturally, Gabe takes on the gang of thieves while trying to ensure the safety of his hostage pals, has a little help from a colourful comrade (a deliciously entertaining Michael Rooker) and a ton of gnarly action follows.

Though it lacks the water-tight craftsmanship and delicate tonal balance of Die Hard, it endures as fun schlock. It's also a rarest of movies to be nominated for both three Oscars and four Razzies. Impressive.
