10 Movies Where The Villain Isn't Seen Until The End
2. Se7en - John Doe
David Fincher loves a mystery, and so it should come as no surprise to see another of his films on this list. But this time, it's not just a hidden villain but one of the most famous villain reveals of all time.
Se7en sees detectives David Mills (Brad Pitt) and William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) go up against a mysterious killer who butchers his victims to the tune of Christianity's seven deadly sins. With only five in the bag -- pride, greed, lust, gluttony, sloth -- when entering the film's final act, the killer reveals himself and delivers the finishing blows -- envy and wrath -- in unforgettable fashion. Turning himself in at the police station, the aptly entitled John Doe (Kevin Spacey) leads the detectives to one last crime scene -- that of his own murder.
Se7en kept Spacey (who was well on his way to becoming a big-name star) not just off-screen but out of the marketing material and credits to turn his late-on appearance as the aptly named man of mystery John Doe into a real shocker. What he does with Gwyneth Paltrow's head is another thing entirely.
