Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a prime example of a good, boring movie, if that makes sense.

Beautifully acted and helmed with enormous restraint by Tomas Alfredson, it's a quiet-yet-complex spy thriller adapted from John le Carré's legendary 1974 novel, and despite its mere 127 minute runtime, is an absolutely slog to get through.

The film's aggressively snoozy atmosphere is egged on by not only the glacially paced story, but the convoluted means through which it's doled out, and an ensemble cast who internalise, well, almost everything.

It requires a preternatural amount of patience and concentration to make it to the end credits with a firm grasp of the plot while having not either taken a nap or looked at your phone even once.

This thing is like a warm blanket or a frothy cup of cocoa in movie form: it'll have you feeling sleepy within minutes.
