Prometheus is a movie that was killed by its hype. Ridley Scott's kind of Alien prequel was expected to be one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time, the hype machine was running overtime for the movie, but much of the audience's expectations could not be met by the ponderous and overlong movie. As always with grand sci-fi movies they still become hugely popular and much loved as millions of people were swept away by the perfect visuals and Michael Fassbender's strangely affecting performance. There's no denying the movie has a sense of ambition and awe as it went out to be a masterpiece, but in many people's eyes, it is an admirable failure. The big box-office and DVD sales show a lot of people really enjoyed the movie and certain critics thought it one of the best of the year. As Prometheus was only released last year, it remains to be seen whether opinions on the movie will switch, but there's no denying it is one of the most polarising movies of recent years.
