Though 4K TVs have been on the market for quite a few years now, only recently have they begun to take hold with the mass TV-buying market, as decade-old HD sets have started to break down, and with the movie, TV and video game industries aggressively pushing 4K, the time finally felt right to upgrade.

There will always be those who care nothing about image quality, but if you want to get the most out of your movies, the upgrade to 4K is an eye-opening experience that's far more than a nifty novelty.

While there are certainly 4K releases which have turned out disappointing, thankfully studios are mostly putting considerable effort into making their home UHD releases as striking and comprehensive as possible. 10. Mad Max: Fury Road

George Miller's masterful fourth Mad Max movie is one of the most visually intoxicating films of the last few years, and it's a pleasure to report that the 4K home video release is so jaw-droppingly gorgeous you can practically taste the dirty sand in your mouth.

It's fair to say that almost every frame of this movie could be hung on a wall without shame, and the 4K Blu-ray's HDR presentation wonderfully enhances the crispness of the theatrical release. The sandstorm sequence in particular looks utterly tear-inducing thanks to the benefits of HDR.

It's always a bit of a worry with 4K that it'll start to reveal the VFX seams of a movie you love, but thankfully Miller's integration of practical stunt work and CGI remains dizzyingly impressive.
