A Nightmare On Elm Street is so close to being one of the best horror films of all time that it actually hurts. Nancy ends up vanquishing the dream-lurking-burns-victim-pederast known as Freddy Krueger, but naturally, like pretty much every horror film ever made, Wes Craven couldn't resist a little franchise bait in case the film did really well (which it of course did). It's not just that the ending sets up a sequel moments after Freddy is killed, but the absolutely ridiculous nature of it. Nancy gets in a car with her friends, just as the hood of the convertible traps her inside, and a wide shot reveals that the paint-job on the car matches that of Freddy's sweater, but no, that's not all. We cut back to Nancy's mother, who by way of a hilariously unconvincing mannequin, is pulled through a smashed window by Freddy. Though the series eventually caught up to this level of silliness, was there not a more darkly sinister way to convey the same idea? Which awful endings to awesome films have disgusted you the most?
