Ridley Scott may have one of the more inconsistent track records of an A-list filmmaker out there, but it's hard to discount the fact that Scott's Gladiator was an epic for the ages, one which won Best Picture at the Oscars and earned him a Best Director nod. It's hard not to wonder what Scott can pull off with Exodus, which will depict the exodus of the Jews from Egypt as led by Moses, who will be played by Christian Bale. In addition to Bale, the cast includes other acting powerhouses like Ben Kingsley and Sigourney Weaver, as well as a fine supporting cast including Aaron Paul, Joel Edgerton and John Turturro. Epics are a favourite of the Academy, perhaps in large part because they appeal to the nostalgic sensibilities of the older-slanting voter demographics, and the religious subject matter will also tick a lot of boxes. Still, hopefully this is more Gladiator and less Robin Hood, eh?
