There's a sense of snobbiness that clings to that Academy in and around the realms of comedy; it seems unlikely that there will ever be anything resembling a comedy category as a result. But in this day and age, such a thing makes a lot of sense: if it's good enough for the Golden Globes, why not the Oscars, too? After all, year after year, lots of great movies of the humorous kind find themselves snubbed by the Academy because they don't fit into any of the pre-existing categories. It's almost as if there's no place for movies of the comic variety unless they're animated, as far as the Oscars are concerned. Implementing a "Best Comedy Film" category could bring recognition to all the hilarious movies that are otherwise locked out come Oscar season - and it might also encourage Hollywood to up the quality of comic movies in general. Which would be nice.
