10 Painfully Bad One-Liners In Otherwise Great Movies
10. "I Love Magic" - Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire
It's no secret that the Harry Potter films are universally adored and rightly so. Goblet of Fire is a stand-out in the series with the enthralling Tri-Wizard Tournament prepping us for the long-awaited arrival of Voldemort. Goblet of Fire is thus a turning point for Harry Potter as his journey from here on in gets all the more darker making this painfully awkward line feel extremely out of place.
In the film's opening, Harry attends the Quidditch World Cup for the first time. Upon entering Mr Weasley's Tardis-like magical tent, he declares "I love magic." This moment of dumbstruck wonderment feels clichéd and cheesy. In all fairness to Radcliffe, there isn't really a whole lot you can do with this line - it is what it is.
Harry reacts like a child on Christmas day and at this point in the series, the tone has shifted towards the darker end of the spectrum and the threat of the Death Eaters looms ever near. This line feels like it was taken out of the more innocent Philosopher's Stone. Sorry Goblet of Fire but this one just didn't land.
