But it€™s worth reiterating just how absurd this seems. Even receiving a total of 5 nominations (a princely sum by any director€™s standards) seems a rather measly amount given the cinematic legacy he left in his wake. However in 1968 he was awarded the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, an accolade reserved for those €˜whose bodies of work reflect a consistently high quality of motion picture production€™. Despite an Oscar-less career, Hitchcock€™s name will forever be engraved into the halls of cinema fame. He is portrayed by Anthony Hopkins in the recent release Hitchcock which looks at the turbulent production process of his timeless classic Psycho.
