Late in 2014 it was announced that The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone was hired by Warner Bros. to helm a new adaptation of the the classic, post-apocalyptic Stephen King novel The Stand. In a subsequent announcement, major movie sites were reporting that Matthew McConaughey was being courted to play the iconic manifestation of American aggression and evil, the legendary Randall Flagg. This of course won't be the first incarnation of The Stand to be played out on-screen. In 1994, Mick Garris directed a 4 episode television mini-series that chronicled the deadly plague that killed most of the world's population, with the remaining survivors split into two groups - one lead by a benevolent elder and the other by a maleficent being, culminating with a final battle between good and evil. Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald and Jamey Sheridan were just a few of the ensemble cast that did remarkably well within the constraints of a made-for-TV budget. As is often the case, the strength of a movie based upon an iconic novel depends largely on the believabilty of the cast. People tend to form visuals of what specific characters look, sound and act like.
