8. The Movie Takes Place In Rod's Imagination - Get Out
The Theory
Protagonist Chris' (Daniel Kaluuya) horrific run-in with the Armitage family and their subsequent plot to take control of his young, nimble body for their own nefarious means is nothing more than the exaggerated fantasy of Chris' TSA agent pal Rod (Lil Rel Howery), after Chris tells him that he's meeting his white girlfriend's family for the first time.
This is indicated by not only the heightened, ridiculous narrative, but also the fact that Rod ends up saving the day, effectively making Get Out a hero fantasy.
How It Was Debunked
In an extensive video for Vanity Fair (below), Peele confronted many of the hit horror-comedy's popular fan theories, and though he expressed love for this particular one, he ultimately called it "100% false" and in no way the daydream of Rod.
It's tough to argue with the imagination behind the theory, but having the scenario turn out to be merely imagined might undermine its social commentary just a tad.
