10 Popular Songs You Didn't Know Were Written Solely For Movies
Movie scores that outgrew cinema.
Filmmakers hiring renowned artists to score their work is quite common for today's blockbusters, allowing a director to add an extra musical flair to their work that can resonate with an audience.
Some of these commissioned-for-film tracks have become synonymous with the titles they were made for, with Eye Of The Tiger for Rocky III, as well as Danger Zone for Top Gun being prime examples.
Some of these songs, however, become so popular in their own right that their links to cinema are forgotten. This doesn't necessarily mean because the movies they originated from were poor in quality, but that these songs were so well-received that they've been enjoyed without any knowledge that they were attached to a feature film.
10. The Power Of Love - Huey Lewis And The News
Written For: Back To The Future (1985)
Starting out with more of a well-known contribution, this is one of two songs that Huey Lewis and The News contributed to the Back To The Future soundtrack, the other being Back In Time.
Played during the opening sequence of the film, this track establishes the tone of the movie as Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) rides through a 1985 Hill Valley. It also heard intermittently throughout Parts II and III, showing how closely linked this song has become with the franchise.
Driven by a repeated saxophone/guitar riff, The Power Of Love is an upbeat, positive and enjoyable song that has become one of the staple tracks for the band.
