2. Susan - Deep Blue Sea

There's only so many times you can take responsibility for a new species of mega-sharks with genetically enhanced intelligence before you're doomed to be eaten by your own creation. All the way through Deep Blue Sea, Susan laments her decision to beef up her shark's brainpower and risk the lives of everyone at both the ocean research facility and in nearby waters, and there's only one way she can get true redemption: sacrificing herself to save the others.

So that's exactly what she does. The two researchers responsible for creating such dangerous sharks bookend the movie, with Jim's death used as the catalyst for the shark's imminent release and Susan's death stopping the last big bad shark breaking out into the open ocean.

Horror movies with parties that make irresponsible decisions and bring about mass trauma to all their friends always have a price to pay. It's not a new trope, but it is one employed diligently in this little Jaws inspired shark romp.
