6. Great Actors Don't Get The Material They Deserve
It's unsurprising that the ridiculous critical and commercial success of Nolan's movies makes him a director that pretty much every actor wants to work with at some point. However, the flip-side of that is that it only places greater pressure on Nolan to find and write strong parts for his immense casts, something which he has reportedly done to only a limited degree in Interstellar. Though Matthew McConaughey has received a solid round of acclaim for his performance as the every-man protagonist, it seems that much of the supporting cast gets stuck with playing idiotic or unbelievable characters, which immediately brings that Prometheus comparison back once again. The Guardian: "The actors ...script-delivering modules" IGN: "The human behavior - such as the characters decisions, conclusions, and reactions to events - often defy logic." Forbes: "Many of the characters arent terribly engaging despite the fine and dedicated cast...Too many of the supporting characters dont resonate beyond scientific talking heads." The Movie Minute: "Some usually fine actors are left pretty much stranded." Cinema Blend: " arent exactly given a ton of material to work with." Screen Daily: "These actors arent playing particularly well-drawn characters."
