In many ways, Tom Cruises career is essentially flawless. He has a core franchise with Mission: Impossible, and a slew of standalone films outside it, and hes worked incredibly hard to become the global star he has been for decades. And he deserves it. But in recent years, his roles have mostly been more of the same, typically only leading gritty action movies. Edge Of Tomorrow brings him back to his earlier days, when there was a more fully-rounded Cruise. Hes the same action star hes always been, but one of the best things about the film is that Cruise also brings the kind of comic moments everyone loved him for in Risky Business and Jerry Maguire, as well as a hint of romance. He has charm and wit, as well as heroic strength, and it pays off in dividends.
