7. It's Meta (But Not Too Meta)

Deadpool is in a way the ultimate meta-superhero movie, with its totally off-the-rails references to the X-Men series itself.

However, that sort of self-awareness can only really work in a comedy movie, so it's impressive that Logan manages to nod at the wider X-Men franchise while keeping its tone incredibly grounded and serious.

There are no fourth-wall-breaking moments here, and instead the movie gets to have its cake and eat it too by incorporating X-Men lore while still feeling tacitly linked to the previous movies in the series.

Deadpool is ultimately too meta to really engage properly with other X-Men characters and events, so Logan's subversion feels like the best of both worlds.
