No movie can really feel like classic Disney without at least a couple of great songs and The Emperors New Groove absolutely obliges in that regard. Their presence is sparse but their use is so effective that its hard to ignore. The real show-stopper is the opening number, better known as Perfect World. Performed by Kuzcos literal Theme Song Guy, the song is appropriately belted out by legend Tom Jones. The anthem is catchy, flashy and immediately lets us know the vain and heartless kind of a guy that Kuzco is. But the songs arent only irreverent; the music still screams classic Disney with some real heart. Stings Oscar-nominated song My Funny Friend And Me plays through the credits and tells of Kuzcos friendship with Pacha through his own perspective. It speaks to his very real growth and has the melodic feel of a classic Disney track. The songs may not be plentiful in this outing but their effective use as a storytelling device is nonetheless impossible to ignore.
