I like Batman. Superman is cool, too. And I have no problem with the Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and the Martian Manhunter. Put them all together and you have one hell of a crime-fighting team, right? But ask me which one of these characters is unlike the others - one that doesn't really belong - and it's obvious. Is it the dude in the bat costume with a grimace on his face, who looks like he doesn't really want to be there? Don't get me wrong: I don't think Batman is a lesser superhero. In fact, he's a great one, but it all depends on the context. In a world where corruption and crime are rampant and there's no one to turn to for justice, Batman is necessary. He's a product of his environment, but put him in the context of a couple of aliens, an Amazonian, a product of a freak accident, a merman, and an intergalactic cop, he's the odd man out. Warner Bros. have slated The Justice League for a 2015 release with Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman as the main characters, but with script problems, the finished Dark Knight trilogy fresh in everyone's minds, and Man of Steel on the way, it's not looking too bright for DC's answer to The Avengers.
