10 Reasons Why Nicolas Cage Is The Perfect Hollywood Movie Star

1. He's Probably Insane

What do Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson and Nicolas Cage each have in common? They're a) some of the biggest movie stars in the world (and of all-time) and b) probably crazy. And speaking frankly, here's the reason that Nicolas Cage is so appealing: the likelihood is, given all the evidence, that he's insane. Thinking on it, what better trait should the perfect Hollywood star inhabit other than a bit of good ol' insanity? Nowadays, it's all dress smart, smile and and be polite, but the great "classic" movie stars never gave time to that kind of behavior. Jack Nicholson and Marlon Brando? True movie stars - both excessive, individual and likely insane. And you need only look into Cage's personal life to confirm such things: he has a pyramid in his garden, for God's sake, one that he has specifically expressed he'd like to be buried in. Whilst preparing to star in Ghost Rider, he the man supposedly used "voodoo magic" to prepare for his role, and made sure that he had ancient artifacts in his pockets whilst filming to drive off evil spirits. But Nicolas Cage's insanity is working to his advantage. And we're living in a world in which people genuinely want to see it all up there on the screen. His "batshit crazy" performances have garned him a huge online fanbase, what with the new-fangled ability to edit the man's most bizarre and questionable acting moments into a neat (albeit hilarious) 5 minute clip at our fingertips. But crazy is good. It's far better than being just another Hollywood star who sits blandly in interviews, goes through the motions, never veers from what their publicist has told them to say, and generally acts a bit boring. Cage is being Cage. And whether or not you think that he's worthless or a complete nut-job or a bad actor is of no real consequence: what matters is that Cage is far more interesting than most of your run-of-the-mill Hollywood starlets. He has personality. So, asked to describe what you think makes the "perfect" Hollywood star (perhaps "definitive" is an even better word), would you likely end up describing somebody who has won awards, makes a lot of movies, gives to charity, leads a somewhat excessive lifestyle, has huge mainstream and cult appeal, whose movies have made billions of dollars, dates other celebrities, and is probably a little bit crazy? I give you Nicolas Cage: the perfect Hollywood star. Like this article? Let us know in the comments section below.
