10 Recent And Upcoming Monster Movies You MUST Watch
8. The Bride!
In 2025, Netflix released the most recent adaptation of Frankenstein to widespread critical acclaim. The movie is visually stunning and has rightly scored multiple Oscar nominations, though it was a relatively straightforward, classic take on the story.
2026 brings something of a more radical version, not of Frankenstein himself, but of the Bride of Frankenstein. This will come from Maggie Gyllenhaal, and couldn't be further from the tone and the feel of Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of Mary Shelley's story.
The titular bride will be played by Jessie Buckley, and will be created for the original monster (Christian Bale), before the two head off on their own adventure together, in what feels like something of a Bonnie and Clyde dynamic. You may not have expected it, but the next Frankenstein story told on the big screen looks to be incredibly fun.
A Frankenstein tale in this style, with musical numbers to boot, may or may not be as well received as is hoped, but at the very least, there is intrigue and daring to do something different with classic material.
