As much as spoilers have never been easier to leak thanks to today's climate of social media and information on the internet, absolutely nobody wants to go into a film having had any of it ruined for them. That first watch is crucial, both to the filmmakers and to the audience.

However, while studios often go to insane lengths to keep the secrets from spilling on the internet too soon, audiences are still able to go into a movie fully expecting to see certain things unfold before them on the screen.

Such expectations could be formed by clues picked up from marketing materials and internet rumours, cinematic tropes that are widely expected to be repeated time and time again, and even just knowing how certain film franchises operate. Everyone has their own theories and expectations going into films, but there are some moments that everybody fully expected to happen.

The last few years have been no different, however while it felt obvious that certain events were going to occur on the big screen, some of them did and some of them didn't. Some films subverted such expectations, while others lived up to the predictable.

10. An Appearance By Taylor Swift - Deadpool & Wolverine

Everyone knew that Deadpool and Wolverine was going to be stacked with huge cameos from start to finish. Even before entering the MCU, Deadpool 2 brought in the entire X-Men team for a split-second appearance, and with the Fox universe and the MCU to draw from, the third in the trilogy had an embarrassment of riches at its fingertips.

That being said however, there was one rumoured appearance that everyone was waiting for that didn't ultimately happen, namely one Taylor Swift. This was a theory that the internet grabbed onto and just ran with, until it felt almost certain that the biggest pop star in the world would show her face.

There have been rumours for a long time surrounding Taylor Swift joining a Marvel film, in particular to play Dazzler, and with her being real-life friends with Ryan Reynolds and wife Blake Lively, paired with the shirt Wade wore in Deadpool 2 that featured Swift's cats, it seemed like a sure thing.

Add to the equation the first footage of Ladypool from the trailers, and there could be no question, right? However, the female Deadpool was ultimately portrayed by Lively herself, and director Shawn Levy has since confirmed that there was never a single conversation had about bringing the megastar on board.
