10 Recent Movie Sequels NOBODY Expected To Be Good
5. Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor
The found footage Hell House LLC franchise is a textbook example of how swiftly the law of diminished returns can come into effect in the horror genre.
Despite the original 2015 film quickly becoming a cult fave, its two immediate sequels received increasingly hostile notices from critics, suggesting the concept never really had much juice beyond the first movie.
And so, expectations were through the floor for 2023's fourth film, Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor, which functions as both a prequel and sequel to the original trilogy.
But credit where it's due - filmmaker Stephen Cognetti clearly spent the four years between movies wisely, delivering a familiar yet effective rollercoaster ride of eerie found footage set-pieces.
While the second and third films arguably plumbed the depths of boredom, LLC Origins breathed fresh life into the moldy formula, even scoring stronger reviews than the original movie.
A fifth and apparently final entry into the franchise is due for release later this year, and hopefully Cognetti will be able to finish strong.
