10 Recent Movies That Wasted INSANE Casts
10. The Electric State
We know from their Avengers movies that the Russo Brothers can work with massive, unwieldy ensembles, but their adaptation of Simon Stålenhag's acclaimed sci-fi novel The Electric State resulted in a near-criminal waste of one of the most enviable casts of recent years.
Up front, we've got Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, and Ke Huy Quan chewing through moldy exposition and playing terribly uninteresting riffs on characters they've played before, with the latter two wearing terrible wigs to make matters worse.
Meanwhile, the stupendously overqualified wider roster includes - and you'll want to hold your breath for this one - Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Jason Alexander, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Giancarlo Esposito, Holly Hunter, Alan Tudyk, Hank Azaria, Colman Domingo, and Stanley Tucci.
Between them, the cast have 11 Oscar nominations and two wins, without getting into any of their other plaudits. As such, this would be a dream ensemble for just about any filmmaker, and yet, is there a single performance in the movie that leaves any sort of lasting impression? Even accepting that many of these names are providing voiceover roles for robot characters, the parts are generally so lacking in personality that you might not even realise there's a famous face voicing them at all.
