10 Ridiculously Overused Movie Songs

By Shaun Munro /

8. Carl Orff - O Fortuna

Carl Orff's O Fortune is one of those songs that pretty much everyone will recognise, but very few people will actually know the name (or worse still, the Latin lyrics) to. It's been used in epics (Excalibur) and war films (an altered version in Glory), though so pervasive is its influence that it is never used seriously anymore (because the sheer prospect of using it seriously has been rendered null and void). Jackass: The Movie amusing reminded us of this with its entertaining intro sequence, which parodied the self-serious, sombre tone of the song, juxtaposed with a silly introductory scene of the crew riding a giant shopping cart.
