10 Rising Actors Who Could Be The Next Big Thing

By Jack Morrell /

6. Stephen Ellis

A gifted and acclaimed actor on the stage, the recipient of the Paul Newman Award For Acting, and already reasonably well known on screen from DirectTV and College Humor€™s parody of English period drama, The Britishes: Stephen Ellis is poised to break through into lead roles anytime now. If you're wondering where you've seen that face, he's headlined commercials for Verizon, Orbitz, Carnival Cruise, and Wendy's over the last few years. He€™s recently impressed as one of Vince Vaughn€™s many children in 2013€™s Delivery Man, something which can€™t be said of much else in that movie, and shines in the vital role of Touchstone in a 2014 feature film adaptation of Shakespeare€™s As You Like It. But he€™s got his foot in the door properly with his supporting role in the Coen brothers€™ next comedy of terrors, Hail Ceasar!, due for release next year. Starring George Clooney, Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson, the film follows a fixer-to-the-stars operating behind the scenes in 1950s Hollywood. Appearing in a Coen brothers film has been the stepping stone to the big time for so many fantastic actors and actresses over the last few decades that we€™re surprised Joel and Ethan aren€™t on commission. Hey, maybe they are€ it would explain how they continue to produce weird, brilliant films which don€™t make any money. At any rate, one of everyone's favourite recent performances from Mr. Ellis is in Andrew Laurich€™s short film A Reasonable Request, a strangely comic two-hander running eight minutes long, co-starring John Ennis. If you're wondering where you've heard that voice, the man has a thriving secondary career as a voiceover artist. Is he everywhere? Not quite, but it won't be long. https://vimeo.com/130730908
