10 Scariest Movies Made By Disney

10. The Little Mermaid (1989)

Here’s the film which (arguably) saved Disney. Coming in at the very end of the 1980s, The Little Mermaid was a new genre to the studios – the musical. It kickstarted the iconic Disney renaissance of the 90s for its vibrant soundtrack, gorgeous visuals and engaging characters. It is easily one of Disney’s greatest achievements.

But underneath all of its upbeat songs and vibrant colours, The Little Mermaid could be quite terrifying within its plot line. Some of the most chilling moments include King Triton destroying Ariel’s collection, the shark attack and the dangerous hurricane which destroys Grimsby’s ship.

But the scariest moment of all is the final battle between Ursula, the main antagonist, against Ariel. Ursula as a standalone is striking enough, with her mysterious persona and cunning ways, but things get cranked up a notch when she turns herself into a giant and summons a storm to destroy her adversaries.

Her immense powers are petrifying, and even when Eric kills her, it’s still a frightening sight as she is impaled and electrocuted.
