10 Sequels 2013 Just Doesn’t Need

9. Fast & Furious 6

This is one that many will disagree with. I can appreciate that the Fast & Furious series hasn€™t run out of steam yet. The last film, Fast Five, was widely praised by critics as an excellent action blockbuster. I won€™t disagree with them. Fast Five may well have been the best in its respective franchise (which is a noble achievement for a fifth instalment). But six movies is getting just a little excessive for the same basic concept. These films all ultimately deal with the same formula of expert drivers becoming involved in large scale heists. I can€™t deny that it€™s been working very well; but if there€™s anything I learned from the Saw franchise, it€™s that an amusing gimmick can go bad at the drop of a hat. The Saw series had still managed a little suspense and intrigue by the release of the sixth film. The seventh entry killed all of it with one terrible screenplay. The same characters and action plot devices can€™t keep working forever. A seventh film has already been green-lit which is an immediate indicator that the momentum is about to topple. Fast & Furious needs to go out with a bang before it embarrasses itself with one film too many.
