2. John Blake Is Robin

It was practically a certainty that the Dark Knight trilogy was not going to introduce Robin. The universe established by director Christopher Nolan was way too dark and gritty to have Batman be accompanied by a teenage sidekick dressed in red and green, as well as the fact that mainstream audiences haven't really taken to the character since the sixties show starring Adam West and Burt Ward.

Subtle hints to the young hero even seemed out of the question, making it quite the surprise when Batman's ally in The Dark Knight Rises, detective John Blake, turned out to be that universe's version of the Boy Wonder.

The reveal wasn't that Blake was an alias and he was actually named Dick Grayson or Jason Todd, no, nothing silly like that. Instead, it turned out his actual first name was literally Robin. Who would've thought?
