Gus Van Sant shouldn't have even bothered. Remaking a Hitchcock film is an audacious move at the best of times, but when all you're doing is changing the cast and shooting it in colour, it becomes among the most pointless undertakings in the history of cinema. The original Psycho is one of the rare films I would deem it impossible to improve upon, and so in taking that advice, Van Sant doesn't even try to; here Anne Heche and Vince Vaughn are poor substitutes for Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins, and on the whole this just feels like a director wasting a few months of his life for the sake of a pretty tawdry "experiment". Which remake do you think is the biggest waste of time? Let us know in the comments below.
