10 Spider-Man Characters Who Could Headline The Female Spin-Off Movie

6. Spider-Woman (Mattie Franklin)

Who Is She? Mattie Franklin is the third, and perhaps least-famous, character to take on the name Spider-Woman. Unlike her predecessors, Mattie is a teenage girl with a widower father who is in league with Norman Osborn. She overhears her father discussing a mystic ceremony called The Gathering of Five and takes his place, gaining powers very similar to Spider-Man in the process. As a fan of Spider-Man, she impersonates him during a time when Peter has retired from web-slinging, then later adopts her own identity as Spider-Woman. She also is mentored by both Madame Web and former Spider-Woman, Jessica Drew, and goes to live with her father€™s friend, J. Jonah Jameson. Mattie€™s career would be short-lived€”she€™s later kidnapped and her DNA is extracted to make a street drug, then after a brief return to superheroics is eventually killed. Likelihood? Mattie is the least popular of the Spider-Women, but it€™s probably likely that Sony can make the strongest case for having the rights to her character, as virtually her entire publication history is tied closely with Spider-Man. This could also give Sony the chance to introduce J. Jonah Jameson to their reboot, a character who has only been mentioned up until now. But the mystic element of her origin would probably have to be undone. Another roadblock may be that she€™s too similar to Spider-Man€”teenage kid gets spider-powers as a result of ties to Norman Osborn. With Peter still being young in this series, she may not be the best choice.
