So does this mean that there wont be Captain America in the cinematic universe after Phase Three? No, of course not. The Captain America title has most prominently been held by Steve Rogers, but a number of other people have operated under this guise. The most obvious of these is Bucky Barnes, The Winter Soldier. In Caps second film we saw Bucky fight Cap using the heros iconic shield, alluding to his future. In the comics, Bucky took Captain Americas shield and built his own costume after Steve Rogers was killed in front of the courthouse following Civil War. This led to a brief stint where he fought crime as Captain America. More recently, Steve Rogers has lost the super serum powers, giving the Captain America title to Sam Wilson, The Falcon. The Falcon has been introduced in The Winter Soldier, but it looks more likely that Bucky will be donning the patriotic costume for one simple reason. Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky, has a rather long contract as well, having signed up to be in nine different Marvel films, much like Samuel L. Jackson did at the start of the first MCU. Having signed on for nine films, and with Chris Evans only having Civil War and The Avengers left on his, it looks like Bucky will be taking the shield sooner rather than later.
