10. Ghost Team
Sitting somewhere uncomfortably between indie drama and supernatural comedy, British director Oliver Irving’s sophomore film Ghost Team fails on every level.
Jon Heder plays lonely print shop clerk Louis who spends most of his day photocopying lost pet posters but dreams of becoming a paranormal investigator just like on his favourite TV programme Ghost Getters, obviously a riff on shows like Ghost Hunters. When the show holds a contest to find a new host, Louis assembles a ragtag group of similarly lonely friends to investigate a barn he’s heard could be haunted aiming to get some competition-worthy footage.
What follows is series of unfunny sequences in which the potential of its comedic cast – which alongside Heder includes Amy Sedaris, David Krumholtz and Justin Long – is wasted. It’s been compared to an elongated version of a Scooby-Doo cartoon and for its lack of laughs, stupid plot and the fact there isn’t one ghost in movie, that’s probably a pretty fair assessment.
