Rotten Tomatoes: 30% The Plot: In this science fiction drama written, directed and produced by newcomer Khalil Sullins, a team of genius grad students invent something that will make them both rich and famous mind reading technology. What they couldnt predict was the effects that such a machine would have on their lives and the world as they know it. Why It Sucks: Its never easy to make a good indie-feel sci-fi (though it can be done, as the brilliant Ex Machina proved this year) and Listening makes a hash of it from the word go. It starts out almost as a character study - which might have benefited Andrew Scott had it continued in this vein, to be honest - before clumsily moving into science fiction territory, and ends with you feeling as though there wasnt enough story there for a feature film. The film does have its moments where you cant help but laugh, though I dont think that was the directors intention. Its a good job mind reading technology doesnt exist, because Sullins wouldnt have wanted to know what I was thinking as I credits began to roll, thats for sure.
