10 Terrible Horror Movies That Are Actually Awesome

2. Tusk (2014)

Kevin Smith is an acquired taste whose output over the years has dramatically dropped in quality, but there's still plenty of underappreciated gems amongst the duds worth being dug up for a reappraisal.

Case in point, Tusk, the critically panned horror-comedy which concerns an arrogant podcaster (Justin Long) who meets a seaman (Michael Parks) hoping to turn him into a walrus using a suit made of human skin.

Utterly grotesque and brilliantly performed, the film's humour -- as with almost all Kevin Smith's joints -- is hit-and-miss, but the sheer strangeness of its story and the unsettling imagery it conjures up makes it an intriguing experiment in surreal body horror filmmaking.

It's not high art, and Smith's biggest, most self-indulgent flaws as a director are hard to overlook, but Tusk is still a one-of-a-kind burst of weirdness worth seeing for yourself.
