5. Spider-Man 3

Back in the early 2000s, the cinematic landscape wasn't close to what it is today, as superhero movies were few and far between. Superman hadn't been seen for over a decade, and there hadn't been a good Batman film in years, which left audiences with just Blade and the X-Men. Until Spider-Man released, that is.

Sam Raimi's Spider-Man was a game-changer, with the sequel going on to surpass any and all expectations. Spider-Man 2 is still the best-ever Spidey flick in the eyes of many, but the same can't be said of Spider-Man 3, unfortunately. In fact, it's quite the opposite.

The bloated cast of characters that included more villains than the convoluted story could handle simply fell short as a follow-up, something that even Raimi himself has confessed years later. Hell, even the Amazing Spider-Man films are stronger than Spider-Man 3 in some regard, but the threequel still made Sony a lot of money.

Coming off the back of two outstanding efforts from Raimi and Tobey Maguire, the third in the series pulled in almost $900 million, more than either of the other two entries in the trilogy, both of which were way out of Spider-Man 3's league. Even after almost 20 years, emo-Peter's dancing still leaves a hilariously bad taste in the mouth.
